Healthy Cities and Communities emerged with leadership from the World Health Organization in the mid-1980s. What started as a modest project in a few European cities has mushroomed into a worldwide effort with participants on every continent. The underlying premise is that broad, holistic community health can best be achieved through a partnership of public, private, and voluntary efforts. Health is viewed in the broadest sense to include topics such as open space, transportation, jobs, arts, culture, housing, recreation, education, etc. We can assist cities, non-profits, and community groups explore the application and implementation of the Healthy Cities and Communities model. Our work in this area is done in collaboration with the Center for Civic Partnerships in Sacramento.
